Maybe you want to invest in a second body, so that you can have one body
with the 28 and one body with the 50?

I have no experience with either lens.  But I've heard horible things about
the optical qualities of this particular Sigma lens.  On the other hand,
the quality of the F-zooms has been extremely high and their build also
very solid.

I think that you can get the Pentax zoom with confidence that it is the
better lens.  But think seriously about the idea with two cameras too.
