Is this true for film cameras as well, or is it a characteristic of it's use with digital sensors?
I guess if Pop Photography mentioned it in '93, it's the lens' problem.
That's really disappointing! Oh well.
It's sad to pay that much money for what is supposed to be Pentax' top of the line lens.

The original test was on Pop Photo's equipment, which uses a sensor, and on film. The problem is in the lens, not the imaging medium.
What surprises me is that Pentax did not use an ED element in this lens. It is top of the line, as Keith says, yet lacks this top-of-the-line component. If they had, it would probably perform fine, including on the *ist D.
