back when i was an undergrad, i had to take a class on history of science.
the (only) lecture i attended was an overview. i remember how i was surprised
to find out that pretty much everyone who got mentioned, from very ancient
to modern times, has managed to, well, "buy the farm", at quite a
respectable age.

i guess, the trick was, mostly, to stay out of trouble and not get killed.
