Unfortunately, this does not seem to be always the case. Some unique films have disappeared for no other reason than "not enough profit being made". Kodachrome 25 is one and Scotch (?) 1000 is another. Whilst the first might be roped in to support your argument, I cannot for the life of me see how the second can.
Slow film are disappearing because people have been switchimg from prime lenses to slow zoom lenses, and now to digital cameras.
It has nothing to do with film quality, and everything to do with film sales.
