I tried one in shop (and seen few examples from others), and it's a

1) Boke is simply gorgeous
2) Wide open until about 2.8 it's very pleasantly soft
3) from that aperture it got sharp a lot
Right. So it's actually similar to the Pentax 85s discussed here earlier
in some respects?
4) it has pre-set aperture which is a bit of hindrance when you don't
want to shoot it wide open - for example if you need f/4 or f/5.6 to
get the good sharpness of this lens, you have a dark viewfinder. It
would be great for a rangefinder camera where you would have a bright
finder no matter what aperture you chose (unfortunately, the
rangefinder versions, if they exist, would probably suffer from focus
inaccuracy due to different focusing cams than Leica).
I see... I think I've actually seen mentioned an M39 version, so I guess
you would be able to use it with some rangefinders. I don't own one,
though...
