distortion is a term used in optics nearly
always if not always associated with geometry
and it doesn't improve with stopping down.

Optical distortions/aberrations other than obvious geometric distortions
are 
often affected by stopping down. Think outside the square, this is a
photo 
forum not a engineering meeting.
