Because I have to travel for some shoots at the expense of the studio that books them. The travel expenses can be more than a couple thousand dollars. Some of the clients specify digital, so I can't really count on a film backup. Plus, I don't want to have to be 50 rolls of film to support a backup camera that I might not use. If my one digital body malfunctions, I'm screwed.

My two cents worth? Go for it! You'll have peace of mind on your
assignment, and the second body will have a chance to earn some money for
you, probably more than compensating for any "maybe, perhaps" discount
months from now.
