I always figured that the ones with worn out shutters had a motor drive on them
at one time. That and the idea they did not ever need a CLA. If you run a
highspeed motor drive on your camera you really should have it CLA'd every year
or two. And be sure to tell the technician about the drive so he will actually
know to relubricate the shutter. (How's that for too little information, too
late to do much good?)

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the plug. Yes, they're winders, not motor drives. Of course
they are motorized, hence "motor winders." To me, an MX winder is that
little crank that comes with the camera <vbg>.

The WinderMX shoots at 2 fps. The Motor Drive MX, which is much much
more expensive, and I believe requires an external battery pack,
shoots at 5 fps. I always thought that spoke to the ruggedness of the
fully mechanical shutter on what was, after all, not considered a pro
body (maybe "semi-pro" at best). Tripping the shutter, advancing the
film and cocking the shutter 5 times per second must put a lot of
strain on a mechanical system.
Anyway, I digress.
Buy Paul's Winders - at $75 they're worth it.
cheers,
frank
