Odd, I use two of them for weddings all the time.  I pretty much find
AF in general not useful/needed during a wedding shoot.  Didn't matter if I
was shooting my old PZ-1p's, MZ-S's, P67II's or the *istD's.  Seems like a strong
reliance on AF when not necessary.  I only use AF when I am not
capable of focusing manually - That situation hasn't happened at a
wedding yet.

I think the *istD makes a great wedding/portrait camera.
