Here's a photo of the two side by side for comparison:

(Sorry, terrible pic, only on coffee number two.)

Observations:
1.) 105 is almost twice as heavy and quite a bit larger.
2.) 105 uses 67mm instead of 58mm filters.
3.) 105 has about 90 degrees of focus ring travel then you "shift" the focus
ring forward and continue into macro mode, this is about another 45 degrees
of travel. The 70 has over 180 degrees and better macro capability.
4.) 105 feels much tighter, precise and seems to have much better build
quality.
5.) I haven't seen results from the 105 yet but expect they will be
excellent, results from the 70 are very good.
6.) I really, really LIKE the 70, so far I LOVE the 105! ;-)
