Hey, tan,

Thanks for your thoughts. I like that blurry pic,
too. Sometimes blur works <g>.

As for the colour, well, I did shoot some b&w, and
they turned out okay, but I thought that for a bike
race, with all the bright coloured jerseys and bikes
and helmets, colour would work better. It's like
shooting flowers; I know you can do it in b&w,
sometimes with great results, but for hacks like me,
colour is the way to go. So, colour is my bike race
film of choice. <g>

Why didn't I race? Well, I'm a pretty damned fast
cyclist. Especially for my age. I can say that
without any fear that anyone will find that statement
haughty or boastful.

But, these guys would blow my ass off. I know about 8
or 10 of the guys racing that day, and I've been on
training rides with them. I get dropped every time,
and limp home with the other non-racers.

They're good.

They're fast.

This guy, Malcolm:

http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2495197

is actually a pretty good friend. I went riding with
him and a few other people in the Hockley Hills (Dave
Brooks will know where that is) a few weekends ago. I
was quite proud that I could keep pace with him for
the first few miles. Then he sped up. I was then
quite proud that I could suck his wheel (ie: sit in
his slipstream) for another mile or so. Then he
clicked into a higher gear and rocketed off. I got
out of my saddle, but he was gone. It was quite
humbling.

Now, this is a guy that finished about 17th in the
race that I took photos of. Not bad, since he has no
team to support him, so he's a lone wolf. But, still
it was 17th. Not first. I could only imagine trying
to hang onto the wheel of guys faster than him.

So, that's why I don't race.

And, I'll never accuse you of being prolix again. <g>

cheers,
frank
