My point is that one should be able to disagree in a debate without having to go out of ones way to be "friendly" with those one is debating with. Which is not to say you should be hostile necessarily (although there is a time and a place like anything). It should be taken as read that we are all colleagues and respect each others opinions. Polite discussions, like polite society can self-censor to the extent that a lot of the interesting stuff gets not discussed. Photography would be boring to say the least if one where barred from taking pictures that make others feel uncomfortable, or which did not challenge the viewer.

It seemed to me that Jostein's post was recommending "polite disagreement." Of
course, I may be misinterpreting his comment.
