I agree fully with the second part of your statement.

It all depends on your needs and the level of safety required.
It's not a prove of quality selling something in the computer business.
Look at all this super fast, noisy and overheating desktop computers
with rubbish power supplies and noisy fans manufacturers sell today, they
sell, what consumers want and pay for.

It's a lot cheaper to invest in the best material for mission critical
servers than
having any failures and dropouts.

The IDE Raid array's I had at home run sufficient well, I replaced them with
single drives
because of lack of support for BEOS and certain Linux distributions and the
noise and heat
they produced like you said in your email. I also had audio stuttering
problems with promise drivers
because of poor IRQ sharing.

Back to Pentaxing :-), maybe anyone uses a Hitachi/IBM Micro drive on his
Pentax for storage?
