Prepare yourself for a revelation. The inside of a Mac looks virtually
identical to the inside of a PC. In fact many components *are* identical.
The only things that will be Apple specific are the logic board and the
processor. Other components and boards are outsourced.

I buy all of my Mac innards used from eBay sellers no problem at all.
While visiting the USA in June I'll be picking up a complete bottom half
(minus CPU and keyboard) of a PowerBook (laptop) as spares for my current
model. This will include a logic board, a display inverter board, a sound
board, a power board, plastic casing, cooling fan, PC card cage assembly,
all for 200 USD, which is slightly over the odds, but I used a BIN and I
have bought from the seller before many times who guarantees against DOA,
and it is 50% cheaper than I can get in the UK.

Brand new components are available also from many places.
