Thanks for the answer.

What is the flap you are referring to? The bit at the front which
turns over the rest of the hood? I have such Hoyas on 49 and 52mm
threads (in fact I am hoping to start selling on eBay soon, and the 49
will be up for grabs).

I have a no-name, probably shallow, extensible hood (it almost goes
flat when folded), but it vignetted with the AF500FTZ (in Auto-zoom,
so I did not mess up the flash zoom settings). This also allows the
cap to clip on top of it, which one of my Hoyas does not do.

I can see me trying that; I can see the hood in the rubbish bin very
soon afterwards :-)

I like it, I prefer it to the FA 28-80/3.5-5.6. It is heavier than it,
I think it flares less and it probably distorts less in the short end.
It zoom-creeps a little bit, it is front-heavy but it handles fine on
the MZs with or without the grip. On the SFXn it is ace. But bear in
mind I am not a demanding photographer. I am selling both the F and
the FA (as I have another F which I will keep). If you pay for the P&P
costs I can lend it to you.

Thanks. If anyone needs one, I know of one (not mine).
