Christian, that's a great shot of Sydney. It captures all the best
elements - the sea, the sky, the harbour, the boats etc.
However, it doesn't show that like all very large cities, Sydney has
horrendous traffic issues (watch 8 lanes of traffic come down to two or thee
on the bridge in the rush-hour!), that it sprawls over a huge area, has some
very deprived areas, is ridiculously and enormously expensive for real
estate, and is generally somewhere I'm always glad to leave! Like many
Aussies, I wouldn't live there in a fit!
Robert Hughes wrote a very readable book in his "A Fatal Shore", but you
should be aware he's considered somewhat biased by many critics, and his
reputation as an historian has suffered recently. But it is still very
informative and gives a good background to this beautiful country and it's
people.
