On the other hand, I bought my son a pretty good laptop computer just before he left for college from "a major mail-order computer maker" with a 3 year extension to the 1 year warranty. In his Junior year they replaced the LCD panel. In his senior year they replaced the keyboard and main processor board. Everything has been replaced except for the plastic case. They came to him and did all the repairs on site.

From my point of view, the extended warranty on that purchase was a no-brainer. He was taking an expensive, hi-tech piece of equipment into a high-risk environment, several hundred miles away from home. $150 extra on a $2000+ purchase was the lessor risk.

Sometimes the extended service plans make sense.

See you later, gs
