You must be just a kid Doug:) Vaudville is "old"... or radio - Benny, Burns, Hope... I liked Carlin's stuff - if he used that phrase I suspect he was taking off on it too. It was the "like, you know" combination that I thought was a more recent and overly used turn of phrase.
