The image is cropped in a single frame. This means that the top 1/4 and
bottom 1/4 are masked off. When printed it is like printing an 8X12 and
cutting off the top and bottom to create the 4X12. The biggest advantage to
using the built in panaroma mode is that of composition. It is easier to
*see* what the crop will look like than to *imagine* it. If you are not
sure if you want the crop, then have it done after the fact because the
masking removes that portion of the image on the negative.

As far as other uses go, I have found that pictures of band/orchestra
concerts of the entire group is usually very wide and not so tall, just
about right for a panorama to knock out the crowd in front. I have also
done some team pictures of sports goups on playground equipment that follows
the same ratio. They have both turned out very well.

Subject: Panoramic Mode

Hi,

This is probably a really stupid question but it has been playing on my mind
for a while.

I have an MZ-5n which as most of you know has a panoramic format. My
question is how exactly does this work bearing in mind the standard 35mm
frame size. Does the image spread over two frames or is the effect created
during the processing stage?

Also I have read in magazines that the same effect can be acheived by taking
the usual image then cropping top and bottom followed by an enlargement of
the remaining elongated image. Is one way better than the other?

Finally, what other uses have list members found for the panoramic feature
other than the "beautiful lanscape"
shots.

I have not used the feature yet but I am thinking of giving it a go on the
next few rolls. I'll let you know how it goes.
