I sent my girls down to Brazil this past summer for about 3 weeks.
They were touring with the regional Youth Symphony here. We debated
on what direction to go - film or digital and finally decided that low
resolution digital would be fine. I made sure to get them cameras
that would take AA's and sent them with about 8 rechargeables each and
charger. One camera (Canon A10) is a 1.3MP and the other (Optio 230)
is 2MP A couple of 256MB CF cards was sufficient to store about 800
shots at full resolution/medium compression (recommended setting).
They never had to deal with film (airport checks, etc), just took shots as they
wanted, able
to review at times and not worry too much about wasting shots.

The trip was successful and they were happy with both the use of the
cameras and the resulting pictures. Erin is going to submit one of
them to the upcoming PUG from the Optio 230.
