Actually I have this nifty little desk top app that shows me where it is night and where it is day across the world, so I know which good little boys and girls are in bed, and which bad ones are still up at 4 am here! You know who you are !!

Oh, sorry Mike, didn't I mention? It's a Mac-only app. Tsk, I'm sure there's a PC version just floating around out there somewhere ;-)
I once used xearth for a similar purpose. It makes the desktop a world map that changes with the clock, so that the part of the world where it's night becomes dark accordingly. It also shows recent earthquakes if you want it to.
