You have a better chance of making the most of what you've captured - whether it's on film or digital - if you have a thorough understanding of what's going on inside. That "inside" covers film emulsions, development chemicals, CCD chips and computer file formats. No, you don't *have* to know about this stuff to create good images, but it never hurts to have extra arrows in your quiver, so to speak.
