It wasn't so much as his dictionary as his "American Spelling book"
(later retitled the "Elementary Spelling Book"). Even so, he was
famously capricious with his taste for spelling reform: He actually
argued *for* the British spelling of words ending in "our" instead of
"or", like "colour" and "humour".
