Hi folks - I answered some of my own questions.  I took a chance and bought the camera at Egghead for 45 USD + 7 shipping.  It seems an uncommonly good deal... we'll see. Has VGA resolution (640 * 480) and comes with one of those digital stitchers as well as a bunch of other software.

The normal max length for a USB cable is 5 meters, but you can buy active extension cables (expensive) and chain 4 together + 1 normal cable to reach a length of 25 meters.

Subject: OT: Video Blaster WebCam Plus

I'm interested in using a webcam to publish live snapshots of the view from my front yard to the web.  I have seen Creative Labs Video Blaster WebCam Plus, which sells for about 80 USD.  It appears to come with software for just this purpose, but as usual, it's hard to tell by reading the mfrs. claims, just how easy, how automated the features are.  Does anybody have any experience with this unit?  And also, is there a maximum length for a USB cable?

Thanks,

Tom C.
