Wlofcamera.com had the *Ist D listed as "in stock" on Friday.
I initiated an online chat with a salesperson and over course of a couple
hours ( I had an appointment to go to but left the chat session active)
negotiated a price of $1499. I asked the salesperson if he'd "toss in" a CF
card, he said "sure" and I said "deal".
He said two separate times that the camera would be shipped on Monday. When
it came time for the credit card part of the conversation, he asked me what
size CF card I wanted. I was a little curious seeing as I figured they'd
"toss in" only a small one. turns out his definition of "toss in" was
different than mine...like he's thinking he'll toss it in the same box...

Today I didn't get the promised shipping update so I mailed their customer
service about the status of my order.
Their reply:
The camera is out of stock and will likely ship the third week of October.

I mailed them back with the transcript of the internet chat that clearly
shows the sales guy "John Smith" stating that he'd ship the camera on Monday
and asked them to explain the situation. I sent my phone number.
Their reply:
Call us.

I called them and had to start over since their phone guy didn't seem to
know about their email guy. I explained my issue to the new guy who hemmed
and hawed stating over and over that the camera isn't in stock. He checked
with the warehouse for five minutes and came back with the same line.
I told him I didn't like being lied to and, unless they were prepared to
make my wait worthwhile, they should just cancel my order.
"Ok fine we'll cancel your order. You will not be charged. Have a good
night." was his reply.

So I'm not in debt anymore but I'm very angry right now...

On another note, the CF cards I ordered from Amazon after completing the
camera order arrived today. Go figure...
