I've been there in early spring and its very nice at that time.  October 
should also be very nice, it might be pretty green in some places, due 
to rain, a rare sight in those parts.  Make sure you go into the Chisos 
mountain basin, and if you can, stay at the Chisos Mountain Lodge.  Its 
very scenic there.
