I checked out the Metz SCA3702. It does NOT support
P-TTL flash. I do NOT expect it to function with any
kind of TTL flash metering on *ist D. I'd expect the
*ist D to be like Canon and requires preflash to
meter flash exposures until I am corrected
otherwise. I bet Metz would have a M2 version of
SCA3702 pretty soon to address that. It is hard to
imagine Metz not supporting *ist D asap.

I used to be happy because I have no K/M lenses and
thus no need to worry about compatibility. Wrong...
I have a bunch of old, but dedicated TTL flash,
precisely one each from Sunpak, Metz and Vivitar,
that I want to continue to use on a new digital
body. But I guess I won't have that luxury. I'll
have to go back to auto flash exposure like several
decades ago.

Maybe I should start hunting for a used 40 MZ-3i and
wait for the SCA3702 M2 to materialize. If you see
one please let me know (I don't like the look of the
54 MZ-4.)
