Hallo,
Pentax has copied the Nikon F80 with MF-lenses non compatiblity.

Pentax have in fact followed the Nikon D100 with the *ist D. They (will) compete with
each other and both companies have released lenses without aperture rings and both
camera bodies have limitations in the mount (Pentax with lenses more than 20 years
old). They also use the same CCD. Oh,.. and the *ist D use the same AF pattern, layout
and AF point selector pad as the D2H. All thats missing from the *istD is USM and VR
:o(

Nikon and Pentax have followed each other quite closely when it comes to lens
compatibility. Also, traditionally in camera design as well: eg. LX vs. F3; Spotmatic
vs. Ftn; ESII vs. Nikkormat EL; K2 vs. FE; ME vs. EM(!); MX vs. FM; Z-1 vs. F90 etc...
Unfortunately there are no Pentax F4 and F5 equivalent :o(

Anyway, with a DSLR market passing the 1 million mark there's no point for Pentax, or
anyone else, to have only one DSLR in the line-up. In fact, with sensors with various
resolution available it make more sense than ever to have "many" DSLR available at
various quality and price points. After all, with a DSLR buying a new camera body
could actually increase image quality. It isn't all about the lenses any longer...
We are still in the infancy of DSLR's. Time, not long, will tell how things settles
out. I'll personally wait with digital until the dust have settled somewhat.
