For what it's worth, my husband, who's a programmer and builds his own computers, says that this item is unnecessary. I was looking at it myself about a month ago. He says laptops are made to cool themselves adequately. I bought this thing instead: http://www.laptopdesk.net/laptopdesk2f.html I have to admit, after a while I can still feel the heat on my lap through the plastic, but it has very sticky rubber skids, and it folds in half and tilts to become an angled platform for your laptop when it's on a desk, putting the keyboard at a comfortable angle.
