At a recent neighborhood party -

3 people had disposable film cameras
1 person had a low end Nikon, something like a 65 or 75.
3 people had mid-range digitals

of the digital-neighbors

One had the camera over a year and had never downloaded the pictures from the camera. They thought they might need to get a different computer before the camera memory was full.

One had used Shutterfly.

One had downloaded the photos to their computer but never printed anything. He was thinking about buying a color printer.

On another occasion, a neighbor figured out how get the photos to the computer via her image editing program, but her computer only allowed her to keep four photos. I said I thought that sounded unusual. She said it was relatively consistent, her word processing program let her keep six files. As it turns out, she didn't know how to "save as..", knew nothing of folders, etc. She also mentioned that her kids had tried to explain it to her several times and refuse to show her again.

So my estimate is a little different

pictures are still in the camera - 40%
pictures made it out of the camera, never printed 35%
home made ink jet prints on plain old 20lb bond 15%
home made ink jet prints on photo quality paper 5%
printed by a service or lab 5%

Sorry - I think a lot of the guys that buy digital cameras are married to women that take the real family photos with a disposable film camera.

See you later, gs
