Yeah, they are messing with you. Should cost the same as C-41 color: it does at my lab.

The local lab I've been patronising for the last year hsa been very satisfactory, but I'm curious about one thing. I had sporadically used C-41 black and white film, mainly for the cost effectiveness of being able to have it processed and printed anywhere. After I settled on my current lab (because their service and the quality of the prints has always made me happy) I discovered that they charge the same for processing and printing C-41 B&W as traditional B&W (which is about 20% more than the cost for color C-41). When I asked about this I was pretty much told, 'That's the way it is.' I've been so generally happy with their work that I just let it go but I've always wondered if there could be a legitimate reason for this. The money doesn't mean so much to me, but then I don't really have a lot of it either. Any thoughts?
