I'll assume this is meant for me, so I'll answer. Ralf, I have absolutely no
problem with what specs anybody wants or doesn't want on a camera. I say,
more power to you if you want hundreds of frames per second or nothing but a
shutter and a tight box to mount your lenses on.
In fact, I have said many times on this list that what matters most is that
the specs and the feel of the camera fits an individual's needs is what
matters most. I could not possibly care less whether someone uses a Pentax
or a Nikon or a Leica or a Miranda or any other camera out there, as long as
they go out and take pictures. You'll never get me to tell someone that a
camera is or is not right for that person, because I have no idea if it is
or not. That's an individual decision.
Versatility and freedom of choice is what I am ALL about. I use a PZ-1p, an
LX, and an Olympus digicam at work. If there was a Nikon Macro (Micro) lens
here, I'd use an F2, because I believe in different tools for different
tasks, and that F2 has a way cool grid screen in it that I believe would be
prime for some of the shooting I do here. I would like to figure out a way
to incorporate this wonderful 4X5 aircraft camera sitting on my desk into
the museum photography.
Nor am I some blind Pentax loyalist with nothing bad to say about any of the
products. I think you know better than that, and if you don't you can search
the archives. Or, well, you =could= if I'd get a few days to boil them down
and format them into a searchable database. You can go back to the last
couple of days to see what I had to say about the MZ-S, if you'd like. If
someone has something bad to say about individual products, that's fine, as
long as I am free to disagree, which you seem to find unacceptable.
Now, what I =do= object to is someone who has only the foggiest, generally
overly romantic notion of what it is to be a professional photographer
getting on here and whining that Pentax has "abandoned" the pros by not
producing F5 or EOS clones. Or to come up with a list of specs for a camera
that doesn't exist in the line-up and then bitch and moan that it isn't
there while Nikon or Canon has it. I say, if theres a camera out there that
has what you absolutely believe to be a perfect set of specs for what you
do, Go Buy It.
Of course, you know what happens then. Someone goes out and buys one and
then gets on here and bitches that Pentax doesn't make the same body. I say,
why should they? =You've Already Got One!=
If I joined the Nikon list and then wrote many posts about "what Nikon needs
to do is build a camera with a Pentax mount on it," how long do you think it
would be before I was set ablaze? How different is that from the posts here
demanding that Pentax make cameras like Nikons or Canons?
Sure, someone can remind me that those other companies don't make anything
that will work with X dollars in Pentax lenses. I understand that. But I
also understand that if the body you are using in conjunction with those
wonderful Pentax lenses is causing you that much grief and shame, it's
really better to bite the bullet, take the loss, and trade those Pentax
lenses and body for something you can work with. If it will help you in with
your self-esteem or your photography or both, then I salute you for having
the balls to take action instead of cranking out the same tired whine every
other day.
There. Have I offended pretty much everyone now?
Doug
Pentax, like many of the strange people here follow the logic: I
don't need it, so you don't need it either. They see an advantage in
the absence of specs. This is absurd in itself, but there is no
chance to discuss this with Pentax or certain people here. They
immediately will switch into defensive mode. Versatility and freedom
of choice isn't their thing. They want that everybody thinks like
they do. Additionally, Pentax never gave much support to their older
camera systems. They release SLRs the same way they make P&S: buy it
as it is, or better look for something else.
The Z-1P in my eyes never was a real pro camera, more semipro. So
Pentax has not really abandoned professionals with the MZ-S. But they
obviously go for another portion of the semipro market now.
A Z-1P with SAFOX IV would be great indeed.
