Better ways to save: Make sure developing is great. No scratches, dust etc. Leave out prints, but get the negs scanned. You can always order "reprints" of the best shots. That's what I do, now a days! Jens

I used to be so proud of knowing where to get film developed for under $3/roll, but I got tired of the number of times I had to take things back to be re-done, not getting everything that was in the viewfinder on the print, and getting thumbprints on slides. I finally decided it just wasn't worth it. I couldn't afford to save that much money. But there's a catch: I can't afford professional processing. So most of what I shoot has been going into the freezer to await the day when my financial situation turns around so I can afford to get it developed. I *did* take a roll to a drug store one-hour lab this week though. I wanted quicker turnaround than my usual labs could give me, so that I could include a photo in my LiveJournal. Thing is, it wasn't an _important_ image -- or a roll with anything important on it. The whole point of that roll was to include a photo to go along with something unimportant that I was writing. As for folks at the lab being fun to talk to, oh yeah. Knowledgable and friendly people at both labs. Gotta appreciate folks who can give me advice, take the time to look up what year the box camera I bring in was made 'cause they dig old cameras, show me the Speed Graphic they picked up on eBay, and Take The Time To Do My Photos Right. Yah, pro labs are the way to go. I just need to get more paying photo gigs to support my "for me" / "for art" shooting so I can get some of the exposed film out of the freezer and over to the lab. -- Glenn
