Good question. The aperture ring of my 31 would be stuck halfway when
swtiching in & out of the 'A' position. The button must be released 1/2 way
to complete the action. I have checked other 31 and it is not normal, and
none of my other lenses do the same (including 43 & 77). I removed the ring
and inspected the design carefully but could not see anything usual. I
tested the button without the spring and the little pin inside with the same
problem. My conclusion is either the pin was machined too short, or the hole
of the button was drilled too deep and caused the spring loaded "bearing"
(not actually a bearing) stuck with the hole of the button when it was
pushed & met each other. Since the set of the mounting screws have heavy
tool marks on them out of factory, I might just replace them as well to
complete the job. My 31 is now lying around and waiting for these 2 parts.
