I believe the *ist is designed for newcomers to photography, and as a step up from MZ-30, MZ-50 etc. And those users interest in K-mount lenses from the 70's are probably limited. If I buy one, it will be as a replacement for my dead MZ-10.
Now, it really is time for Pentax to release teleconverters and extension tubes with full aperture- and autofocus coupling.
