Bill,
I wouldn't want to start any flame wars with a country's issues. I was
thinking more along the lines Monday being Memorial Day in the USA. It's a
national holiday, a day off from work, and a time to celebrate the start of the
summer with a barbecue. We also honor those who died in the armies of our
country from 1776 to the present. I could have a flame war with myself on this
topic, but I was touched by the old men at attending the memorial service.
I've seen the service before and tried to get some pictures of the veterans
attending, particularly the frail, white haired World War II vets swinging their
M-1 rifles to the sky and firing a salute to their dead comrades. Some of these
veterans wore their army caps with campaign ribbons and battle stars. It
reminded me of how strong and powerful these old men must have once been, and how
much life their friends had sacrificed to serve this country.
This is a subject I'd like to develop a photo essay around, but maybe
it's too much for a PUG gallery.
Regards, Bob S.
