Check the Pentax Canada website. They have the *ist listed as a novice/intermediate SLR, which is the same as the MZ-6 & MZ-7. The MZ-5n is listed as intermediate & the MZ-S is listed as pro.
I wonder what is next? Will Pentax have a more bottom end *ist to replace the MZ-60 etc, or have something to replace the MZ-5n/3 and then a pro model to replace the MZ-S. We'll see. However the *ist is very well spec'd (heck it's almost an MZ-S sans the build quality), and for $299 US, I'm considering buying one. I have a Z1p & an MZ-S & have A, F & FA lenses so no big deal with the K-mount.
