There is a peg on the down tube just ahead of the rear wheel. You put your foot on it and paddle it like a scooter to get it moving then step up into the saddle. At that point it can be hard to get your feet on the pedels because they are moving (direct drive remember). Getting off is just the opposite, almost stopped put your foot on that peg swing back off the saddle and on to the ground. All this requires quite a bit of coordination and beginners often took a header (and your head is 8-9 feet above the ground). Have fun.
