About a year ago we had a discussion about shooting in the rain, and
several solutions came up, including this one.  Well, John's right
about the bag trick not working if the front element rotates,
although I may have a solution to that.  

Get an old pol filter and break out the glass. Mount it between the
lens and the hood as normal, and then when the elements rotate the
hood should remain relatively static.  Also, Nikon makes several two
piece hoods designed for pol filters, such as the HN-12, that may
also do the trick.
