Hi Nicolas,
I don't understand your logic very well. You say you are a young student so
the price of the new MZ-S is disappointing to you, but then you say you are
waiting for an 17-35mm f2.8???
Did you ever look at the price tickets of these beasts? Not to mention their
size and weight.
Since you have the luck to live in France, where the second hand market is
extraordinary cheap,
I would suggest completing your MZ-3, FA35mmf2, FA43mmf1.9, FA85mm1.4 setup
with for exemple:
M28mm f2.0 215gr., 49mm filter like your 35mm, FNAC price 530FF
A20mm f2.8 245gr., 67mm filter like your 85mm, FNAC price 1590FF
And since you are not very happy with your 43mm, exchange it for:
M15mmf3.5 FNAC price 870FF and an
M50mm f1.4 FNAC price 300FF,
and take a weekend in Nice with the change.
Now if you can't take good pictures with that setup, change to Nikon,
because it's not possible to take a bad picture with a Nikon, as we all know
:-).
No seriously
A) the weight difference makes photography much more comfortable, especially
with compact reflex bodies, and that's what Pentax is all about.
B) in most cased you don't want AF with wideangles, the results are just
better when focussed manually. It is diffucult to focus a wideangle, but
even more for an AF system then for an eye.
Our brain can guess at what would be the sharpest position, an AF system
can't.
And when you photograph from a tripod, it's a real pain to have any AF
system select what you want with a wideangle.
C) in a lot of cases you don't want a zoom either, because a good depth of
field scale is a very important accessory for wide angle photography. (When
used properly, understanding that the DOF marks show the limit of
"acceptable" UNsharpness on a small print, and certainly not the limit of
sharpness on a big enlargment)
And it's not Pentax fault that Nikon and Canon pro's need these fast wide
angle zooms with their APS size digital sensors.
So if Pentax ever makes such a lens, it will be because of the current
fashion, not because it is a photographic necessity for the average Pentax
customer.
Just my opinion,
Erwin
