I've used several flashes simultaneously: It's always risky to use different
flashes that are differently controled at the same time. Alin said that the
second flash is not controled by the camera. That's true, but the light from
the second flash may affect (control) the camera/camera flash (AF500FTZ) and
cause the latter to give less light (the camera cuts off the flash duration
earlier than it would otherwise). I'm sure the measuring cell in the camera
can't tell from which flash the light came.
If the second flash is weaker than the AF500FTZ it may not ruin the total
exposure, it may just enlight other parts of the subject. If the second
flash is too powerfull, it will act as mainlight, while the camera flash
will act as fill-in. I have often used two flashes this way: The lagest
flash bounced off the ceiling, the smaller flash directly at the subject.
This gives you a "softer" (not so sharp) more natural looking scene.
