Hi . I dabbled with some night star shots last year.I found by placing the north star(oh i'm about 46 degrees latitude in north america)either in the centre or off to one top left, right corner, you get some nice circular effects at about 50-60 minutes exposure. I used Kodak 400 film(not sure if it was max or not) with a 35-80 zoom at 35 and wide open at f 4. I also put a tree in the bottom corner for effect and scale.
Good luck.We have not seen the sun in 2 weeks here. This is why i took 2 week vacation at Christmas to take pictures,so far not many:( Dave > hi. > we are visiting an observatory nearby tonight. hopefully the sky will be > clear and will let me take a few shots of the night sky. > Being my first, I guess I should use the standard lens and stick to large > constellations. Have Kodak 400 max loaded onto the K1000; tripod and cable > release complete the 'kit'. Optional are 28mm and a 50-250 zoom. > Inviting your suggestions, dos and donts. > thanks. > -Sridhar > >
