I've had good luck with the Pacific Image 36000Pro, but I have not used any other scanner. Apparently much that's in my scanner was used in the Kodak 36000. The Pacific Image is typically below $500 mail order. One plus: The SilverFast folks make a driver for the PIE unit, but I've not purchased that driver yet. From what I hear, SilverFast does negative orange-mask stripping better than just about anyone else.
