We finally got our electric power back late yesterday, after 5 days without. Thank you Alabama Power, one of the many out of state companies who have come to North Carolina to help restore some sense of normalcy here.
I haven't heard the latest, but last Thursday there were 1,200,000 Duke Power customers without power. I would assume that many "customers" would be the equivalent of 3,000,000-5,000,000 people without electricity. We were doing fine here with the emergency generator until Saturday night when the carburetor iced up. At this point I managed to screw it up royally by breaking the governor and ending up with entirely too much voltage. We got water back Sunday morning though, so with the Coleman stove and water we were at least able to cook and wash. Driving around town, it's really a mess. I don't think there's a tree in the entire Piedmont of NC that hasn't lost limbs, many of which are still hanging in utility lines. It's good to be back. Have I missed anything interesting? Bill
