Bob's right of course. I have 2 tripods, and will probably get a 3rd
sooner or later. Of course, I need a better head too....
I use a Gitzo 026 as my 'light' tripod. You can use it like a table-top
'pod, or extend it to a level where you need to bend over quite a bit. I
usually use it while kneeling.
It fits in a standard bookbag, and is pretty light. I don't know the
specs off the top of my head, but here's gitzo's site:

IMHO, it's great for putzing around town.
