The Spotmatic F is probably the 'best', if you want to label them like
that. Open aperture metering, shutter lock switch, and easier to handle
than the ES/ES II. If you don't need the open-aperture metering, the SP
II still has a hotshoe, though it loses the shutter lock.
If you don't need all those fancy battery-driven integral meter thingys,
get yourself a nice SV (H3v). Self-timer (yup, no batteries), and a good
basic body. Reputed to be less sturdy than the Spotmatics, but I haven't
had a problem with mine yet. If you do go this route, find one with an
orange "R" on the rewind knob, as the green "R" ones will not fit the
50/1.4.
