Thanks for your reply. Soon after I wrote to the list, I found out that somehow, when my wife used facebook, my downloads were going into the pictures folder. As to why my search menue did not pick this up, I have no explanation. Your suggestion was helpful anyway, and I thank you.

Maybe you are downloading to a different place, but if you run c:\ by
typing windows-r and c:\ and there is an edit box and you can search the
whole drive that way.
