Hello all,

We are holding a hands-on workshop in which you get to hack together accessible interactive music gadgets using technologies such as Arduino <http://www.arduino.cc> and Raspberry Pi <http://www.raspberrypi.org/>. There will be two international experts on-hand to give assistance with building the gadgets, and there will be plenty of fun tech to try out. We will be emphasising non-visual interaction with sound.

     Important Dates:

 * Submission of expression of interest: 13/06/2014
 * Workshop: 30/06/2014

     Details

The workshop is part of the New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) <http://www.nime2014.org/> conference, which will take place on Monday the 30th of June at Goldsmiths University in London, from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The workshop will explore how to design and build accessible music technology. Our aim as researchers will be to address the fundamental question of how other senses, in addition to vision, can be exploited to improve interaction with music technology as well as create new forms of interaction that break away from traditional forms of music making.

The one-day event will have two parts, a tutorial session and an exchange session. In the tutorial session, participants will have hands-on experience with building interactive prototype technologies using an accessible platforms such as Arduino <http://www.arduino.cc> and Raspberry Pi <http://www.raspberrypi.org/>. In the second part, participants will exchange ideas for accessible music interfaces in the form of short presentation, technology demonstrations and round table discussions

The workshop will be a great opportunity to discover new technologies, learn practical skills and engage with the community of NIME, and with users and practitioners. Researchers will bring their work to discuss and demonstrate on the day, and users and practitioners will benefit from a special hands-on tutorial session.

Please send a short description of your interest and (if appropriate) a one page summary of your research by the 13th of June 2014 to de...@eecs.qmul.ac.uk <mailto:de...@eecs.qmul.ac.uk>. There is no attendance fee except for a "parts cost" for the tutorial session, but participants will keep the equipment they use.
