Dean, I don't know if you got any help with this, but when I'm recording in
the fashion you describe, I simply go into my volume control area and mute
the line-in option.
Use the Windows 7 search box and type in sndvol and hit enter on the result.
This will bring you into an area were you can see all the various volume
levels etc currently being used on your system. Now just tab across to the
line-in option and hit the spacebar on the mute line-in checkbox. Remember
of course that you'll have to reverse this to restore the ability to once
more hear what's coming through line-in once finished with your current
task.
This should achieve what you want.

Subject: Sound on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
I want to record some cassettes to my PC running a patch cord from my
stereo to line in on my PC. I am using MP3DirectCut.
Is there some way to lower the volume of the line in without lowering the
volume on the stereo? Or is there some way I could mute the sound coming
through my speakers as it is recording so I can hear what JAWS is saying?
I would like to get other work done while I record.
thanks,
Dean
