The following will only be of interest to those living outside the U.S. where DAB and DAB+ radio services are available.
Yep, another Digital Radio but this one is certainly one of the best I've heard since I started using DAB+ radio sets more than 3 years ago. Added to the great sound is the great price you should be able to find this radio for, I found it for under a hundred Australian dollars. So why is it so cheap? Because the radio sports an older style IOS dock which is no longer supported by the newer Apple IOS devices. This shouldn't present too much of a problem, if you have a device that uses the Lightning connector then you can purchase an adapter or forget about a docking an IOS device completely but whatever takes your fancy this radio still remains in the bargain basket. The Pure Contour is in the shape of a semi circle with speakers either side of a front panel. At the top of the panel is the very large display and below this appears to be a blank piece of plastic but its far from blank, if the left-hand side edge is pushed then the panel rotates 180 degrees to reveal an IOS 30 pin dock connector, press the right-and end of the dock and the Dock spins back to reveal the blank panel, this has to be one of the neatest and koolest docking arrangements I've ever seen on any device sporting an IOS dock. There are few buttons on the radio itself and all are located on the top. A remote controller unit is supplied with the radio which contains controls for all functions. Losing the remote control isn't likely given that a magnetic storage cradle is provided for the controller at the back of the radio. The Pure Contour has very nice crisp treble with good mid range and bass performs strongly thanks to the built-in sub-woffer unit. A sub-woofer in such a small unit comes as a big surprise but its certainly there and does its job quite well. Plenty of volume can be had from this radio given its 10 watts RMS per channel amplifiers so more than enough power to fill a small room. The unit supports both DAB/DAB+ and FM bands as well as the IOS Dock and an Aux-in facility for external devices. A coxial digital out and headphones socket are provided on the back of the radio next to the power input socket. I've not tried setting alarms on this radio yet - it has two of those - but I can tell you that programming presets and so forth is a breeze, just use the up/down buttons to browse to the station you want - using the select button to tune - and then hold down the "Favourites" button for 5 seconds. Press the "Favourites" button on its own, use up/down and then the select button to tuen to the selected Favourite in the list. The radio runs on AC power only thanks to a 2.5 Amp 12 Volt output power adapter supplied and will not work on batteries so its designed to be used on a desk, bedside table, kitchen and so on. Is there anything I don't like about this radio?
